Decalogue of the Mediterranean Diet

      1. Bread and food made from cereals (pasta, rice and their wholemeal products) should be part of a daily diet.
      2. Use olive oil as the main added fat.
      3. Eat plenty of foods of plant origin: vegetables, fruits, legumes and nuts.
      4. Minimally processed, fresh and local foods are the most adequate.
      5. Consume dairy products, mainly cheese and yoghurt, on a daily basis.
      6. Red meat should be eaten in moderation, if possible in stews and as a part of other recipes.
      7. Eat plenty of fish, also eggs in moderation.
      8. Fresh fruit should be the usual dessert. Dairy desserts, sweets and pastries can be eaten occasionally.
      9. Water is the Mediterranean drink par excellence.
      10. Daily physical activity is just as important as eating adequately
